Crunchy Contests ~ ! Feedback thread!

I think art contests are great! This is an anime website after all
Anything in the realm of costume making, drawing, sculpting, modeling, etc are great for contests quizzes and the like are ruined by today's easy access of information - where's the contest in google searches?! The only kind of quiz that would be sufficient would be one that relates to something specific from an anime episode that only someone who watched would know A food contest sounds cool too, like Neeka Desu said. Singing.......no......no singing !_! |

Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide chinabean wrote: I've participated in a couple at least of the contests so far and imo they are pretty fair, making a birthday card for naruto was fun! I don't mind singing contests, but it's not something I would actively want to participate in, but it's good to switch it up a bit. I enjoyed the Un-go thing where we earn the badge, that was fun - maybe more of those? In the end of the day you can't truly please everyone, if you do a cosplay one - not everyone cosplays so those that don't will feel discouraged and like one member stated he felt bad cause he's disabled and couldn't draw; so it's like sh*t :( Drawing/semi-artistic and writing seems more universally acceptable in contests, now that I think about more "search and active participation" contests would be better for most of CR members such as watching a new/old series episodes 1-5 etc. and answer the questions and then you'll be entered in this or that drawing and everyone who gets entered receives a unique badge for that contest - no one needs to draw or write, all we gotta do is watch anime; cause when you get a bit fancy like make a video like for the ps3 for example, didn't seem like many ppl participated for a pretty damn good prize. I KNOW I WAS SOOOO BUMBEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD. WHY DIDN'T MORE PEOPLE DO IT. I GAVE AWAY A PS3. |

I think the drawing contest are nice ^^ we get to see peoples art work~ and style~ Though the singing OP/ED songs would be fun to watch as well as participate in :3 there can also be photos of cosplayers for the series or something as well ~ It could advertise the series just by people being able to see others cosplay some of the characters.

Didn't read through all comments so might've repeated.
I like art contests (even though all attempts have been in vain ) since it pushes you to improve and you get to see some talented artists as well. It is harder for people who arent drawing/ painting inclined though and thats a shame. I would like to see things that remained artistic but is broader. Like sculpting an item from an anime/game (ex. Kingdom hearts-keyblade), sewing (making a plush/sock puppet/ paper/ origami of your favorite character in a specific series. Even if they aren't crazy good it would be interesting how people would render it), collage (doesnt require drawing skills but is artsy, can be done by hand or computer), photography (take a picture of a scenic view you would imagine to take place in a certain anime and 1-2 sentences explaining what would happen there or something? ). I Love the idea above of making food thats anime inspired/bento. Since it relates so much to the japanese culture. Writing is good as long as its kept short, that way its easier to judge. (Character description, reviews, short slogan for an anime) I think someone mentioned in a previous contest forum AMV? (Never done one before or how it would work?) Personally I'm in the group that doesn't like pictures of face/voice recording/ videos of oneself. That requires crazy confidence that needs to be bottled and sold in stores. So things like singing contests would really depend on how much I wanted a prize. I prefer the winners and works to be posted in forms and announced there since I love seeing their hardwork and creativity more than just a username. I also like scavenger hunts and badges (since they don't require mad drawing skills). I just skimmed through CRs list of anime titles and picked a bunch that seemed interesting. Fairy Tail, Pandora Hearts, Hunter x Hunter, Blue exorcist, Durarara, Kobato, and Natsume Yujin-cho. Honestly whatever you choose is bound to get Otaku's blood flowing. I'm just really looking forward to seeing the upcoming contests, especially after seeing this forum. |

Sounds like you need to have a rotation of different types of contests.
For instance... 1 week have a drawing competition, next have a singing one, then maybe a photo or cooking one, etc. (maybe even have a community vote for the next competition type each time, excluding the last type that has just been ofc) Also, it would be a good idea to inform people what the next one/order is so they can get ready, and enthusiastic lol. It would be also good if the judges might set certain criteria for each one (maybe not all the time?), that could bring everything down to an easy level... JJtoob wrote: maybe on some contests limit the medium to something specific, like a digital-only contest, or a crayon-only contest lol. And yeah also erialolita wrote: Not all contests have to have BIG prizes either. You can do scavenger hunts, trivia, match the mod/admin with ____ and other simple stuff and just give out forum badges and say like a week free membership There are some cool ideas going around, no need to settle on one, because remember "You can't please all people all the time" :) Just be sure to try and make it as fair as possible for all peoples, so that those who are good at the specific criteria can still do well, but those who aren't so adept might still give it a go. Oh yeah, have FUN with it too. ^^ |

Since I like cooking and baking, I think a great contest is making our favorite character using types of foods.

SailorBee wrote: Yeah, but making AMVs means downloading anime, pretty much, which ..... is not gewd ~ I've wanted to do that since I made AMV's my entire life growing up ~ But, here at CR we cannot endorse AMV making TT__TT Oh man I had no idea, now that I think about it that's really the only way to make an AMV. I guess you don't think about those kinds of things when you always see AMV's everywhere, it's one of those things where it's illegal but people don't really care. I can definitely see why you wouldn't want to support an AMV competition as a company, though I'd love to see some of the ones you created ^-^ |

It's probably been mentioned already, what with 8 pages of comments, but what about trivia contests? You could have series or episode specific questions. Episode specific ones could even be done on a weekly basis to get or keep people interested in new series. You could even toss in some hard questions that viewers might not notice the first time through. Not every one can draw, bake, sing, etc.; so while talent based contests are great and should be kept, not everyone can contribute. We can, however, all watch our shows!

Post screencaps from a show and have a funny caption contest. Everyone has access to free websites online that will add text to pictures. No drawing required.
Or, post a print-and-cut-out-mask of an anime character's face and have people wear it and take goofy photos in interesting locations. A "roaming gnome" anime character cutout contest would also be fun. Even folks with no artistic abilities would be able to participate in the above. |

How about making up a (Theme) bento lunch box on one of the listed shows. People could take a picture of the lunch and sent it in .
